Cardigan Style

In Australia summer is finally ending and we are entering Autumn. I thought this was the perfect to time to write about one of my favourite trends for Autumn and Winter... CARDIGANS! Cardigans can be added to almost any outfit and can completely change the look around.

Adding a cardigan to a basic outfit such as jeans and a tank top will make the look so much more interesting.
If the tank top is relatively plain, either a neutral or a plain block colour, try adding a patterned cardigan. You can get brightly coloured cardigans with bold patterns or try a darker colour with lots of geometric shapes and Aztec looking patterns.

Try adding an oversized cardigan to a simple outfit such as shorts and a tank top to add interest and dynamics. This will also allow your summer shorts and tanks to transition to Autumn (Fall). I recommend sticking to plain simple style for this look but selecting a bright, vibrant colour to make the cardigan the focal point of your outfit.

Pretty Little Liars Fashion and Beauty: Hanna Marin

Fashion:

Hanna Marin (played by Ashley Benson) has a really feminine yet sometimes edgy fashion sense. Hanna is definitely the fashionista of the group. I would definitely say that it is a really modern, edgy and feminine style. I love the way that her outfits are all feminine but they have hints of edginess thrown in to reflect Hanna's personality. I personally would wear lot's of her outfits and add aspects of her style to my own.

Hanna Inspired Outfits:

Tips:

• Layer up on jewellery. You will often see Hanna wearing large pieces such as earrings, necklaces and rings. Try wearing two or even three different necklaces that all match to add definition to your outfit.
• Pick you signature colour. Hanna's signature colour is definitely blue. In almost all of her outfits there is something blue either an item of clothing or a piece of jewellery. Find a colour that you like and that suits your skin tone.
• Grab a jacket/blazer. Hanna usually has some form of outerwear in every outfit she wears. Channel her style by pairing a structured menswear inspired blazer with fun flirty tops and dresses.
• Accentuate your waist. Hanna defines her gorgeous waist by wearing belts and structured blazers and shirts. Copy this by stocking up your wardrobe with belts and blazers.
• Always look your best. Hanna always looks her best. For her the school is her runway. To emulate this make sure you always look your best.

Beauty:

Hanna has a very diverse style of make-up, sometimes she will have a more natural make-up look and then sometimes she will be seen with dark smokey eyes. Both of these looks are easy to re create yourself and the diversity means that you can channel Hanna's look at any occasion.

Tips:

• Eyeliner. Hanna always uses eyeliner. Rim your eyes with a black or-if you want a less dramatic look-a brown colour to make them stand out more against your face. Gel, liquid and pencil eyeliner all work well and any can be used for this look. Hanna doesn't normally make her eyeliner crazy thick so stick to a basic, simple design. Hanna does the top and bottom so rim all around.
• Foundation. Hanna always has perfect looking skin. Copy her look by finding a foundation that matches your skin tone and apply evenly on your entire face. You can choose to either use a liquid or a powder foundation (it depends what works best for you). If you are using a powder foundation try using a brush with a short handle because this is easier to control and if you are using a liquid foundation use a Beauty Blender or a make-up sponge as these work best.
• Lips. Hanna always has beautiful lips. Use a light pink or nude coloured lip gloss to get her look. You can also use a lightly coloured lipstick to get this look. To prevent your lips from getting damaged, use a lip balm each morning.
• Eyeshadow. To channel Hanna's eyeshadow look, choose from natural colours or colours to make smokey eyes. Hanna usually has a smokey eye or a natural eye make-up look. I recommend buying a palette for smokey eyes and one for natural eyes to take the guesswork out of choosing colours that match.
• Mascara. Plump up your lashes with a volumising mascara like Hanna. Before applying your mascara, use an eyelash curler to curl your lashes. Apply mascara to your top lashes and you can apply to your bottom lashes if you want to (it's a personal preference)
• Blush and Bronzer. Apply a blush that matches your skin tone to the apples of your cheeks to give your skin a natural flushed look. Apply a bronzer as a contour to the places where contour is applied.
• Hair. Hanna has beautiful, wavy hair. Get this by using a curling iron. If you want to add extra texture to your hair use a sea salt spray or curling cream.

Pretty Little Liars Fashion and Beauty: Spencer Hastings

Fashion:

Spencer Hastings (played by Troian Bellisario) has a very preppy fashion style. I would probably call it a very preppy but modern fashion sense. I love the way that all of her outfits are classy but still manage to be very modern and fit for teens. I would definitely wear some of Spencer's outfits and use aspects of her style in my own style. 

Spencer Inspired Outfits:

Tips:

• Texture and Layers. Play around with lots of different textures in your outfits. Spencer will often wear layers to add different textures and diversity to an outfit.
• Make use of outerwear. Spencer wears a lot of cardigans, blazers, jackets and sometimes even vests. Try using your choice of outerwear in a different texture to the shirt that you choose to bring interest and dynamics to your outfit.
• Mix masculine inspired items into your outfits. Mix up your outfits by adding masculine items to a feminine outfit like Spencer does. Try wearing soft silhouetted dresses with structured blazers and pairing a feminine skirt and tights with Oxfords or Loafers as Spencer often does.
• Muted, Neutral colours. Try to stick to muted colours, neutrals, earth tones and sometimes pastels like Spencer. Spencer often wears burgundy, navy, brown, taupe, mustard, grey and khaki.

Beauty:

Spencer sticks to a very natural make-up and beauty regime. She uses make-up only to accentuate the fact that she is naturally beautiful. You will not see Spencer walking around with heavy make-up or caked-on layers.

Tips:

• Fabulous, Flawless Face. Spencer keeps her face mostly bare and lets her natural beauty shine through. Copy Spencer's look by using a light layer of foundation or if you have good skin you can use a tinted moisturiser, a BB Cream or a CC Cream. 
• Blushing Beauty. Spencer uses a blush to give her face a natural, youthful glow. To copy Spencer's look apply a blush that matches your skin tone lightly to the apples of your cheeks. 
• Extraordinary Eyes. Like most of the girls, Spencer tends to draw attention to her eyes. Line your eyes with eyeliner and plump up your lashes with mascara. This is all you really need to do to achieve Spencer's eye look and though is is simple your eyes will be sure to pop against the minimal amount of make-up on the rest of your face.
• Luscious Lips. Spencer keeps her lips very simple as she does with the rest of her make-up. Try using a natural coloured matte lipstick. If you really want to keep your lips natural, try either a normal lip balm or a tinted one. Using a lip balm will also help to prevent chapped lips and to keep them healthy.
• Heavenly Hair. Spencer has beautiful, wavy hair. If you were not blessed with wavy hair like Spencer's, you can wrap the ends of your hair around a large curling iron. Spencer sticks to very simple hairstyles like ponytails, half updo's and plaits.

Pretty Little Liars Fashion and Beauty: Emily Fields

Fashion:

Emily Fields (played by Shay Mitchell) has a very sporty fashion style. I would probably call it a very tomboy yet chic style. I love the way that all her outfits are put together so that they all reflect her style. Another thing that I love about Emily's outfits is that she wears comfortable clothes while still looking stylish at the same time.

Emily Inspired Outfits:

Tips:

• Think Bright Colours. Embrace Emily's style by wearing lots of bright, block colours like yellow, blue, peach, pink and red.
• Dress for Comfort. Choose comfortable yet stylish clothes such as cargo pants, jeans, minis or loose fitting tops and sweatshirts like Emily as opposed to wearing tight, restricting clothes.
• Try Loose Tops. Emily likes to wear loose t-shirts and tops. Try an off-the-shoulder top to be comfortable and stylish at the same time. You can also try buying cardigans or jumpers that are a few sizes too large so that they are baggy and comfortable.
• Grab Some Sneakers. Emily wears most of her outfits with a pair of stylish sneakers. Wear sneakers in the colour of your outfit if possible. For a high end option try Converse or Vans, for a cheaper alternative, try picking up some sneakers from a cheap shoe shop.
• Bag a Bag. Emily likes larger, more practical bags that hold everything she needs it to instead of carrying a tiny little handbag or clutch where it's very difficult to fit everything that you want to take out with you.
• Tone Down the Jewelry. With Emily's style, less is more in relation to jewelry. Emily's jewelry is usually simple but feminine. Her earrings are usually plain stud earrings in gold of silver. She sometimes wears simple, stacked bracelets or statement watches.

Beauty:

Emily is naturally beautiful and she shows it off by wearing minimal makeup. The makeup that she does wear is very natural and she only uses it to enhance her natural beauty, she never cakes on layer upon layer of makeup. Emily's hair is also kept very natural looking sticking to simple waves and very basic hairstyles.

Tips:

• Keep it natural. Just use makeup to enhance your features, don't apply layer upon layer.
• Excellent Eyebrows. Emily has thin, well-shaped eyebrows. To get her look, next time you get your eyebrows done, take a picture and show it to the person doing them so they will know what you want. Having eyebrows like this does require some effort to keep them shaped so pluck out any stray hairs with tweezers. If you feel that your eyebrows are too sparse, fill them in with brow powder or eyeshadow.
• Easy Eyeshadow. Stick to natural eye shadows. Use brown toned eyeshadow and don't make it too obvious. Avoid using shimmer eye shadows because they are very obvious and the goal is for very minimal natural makeup.
• Extraordinary Eyeliner. If you want to, you can use a light-coloured eyeliner on your waterline and inner corner. Using a light coloured  eyeliner will make your eyes seem more open and awake instead of looking smaller as when using a dark colour like black or dark blue. Use a black eyeliner on your tight line to fill in the gaps between your top lashes to make them stand out more.
• Magnificent Mascara. Emily tends to stick to wearing minimal mascara. To copy her look, first curl your eyelashes with an eyelash curler. Next, use a black mascara and wriggle it side to side while applying to get maximum product on the lashes.
• Brilliant Blush. Make sure that when buying blush you select a colour that will match your skin tone so that it's not too obvious. Apply your blush to the apples of your cheeks to give your skin a natural looking flush.
• Beautiful Bronzer. Lightly dust a bit of bronzer onto your face to add a natural looking glow. Apply bronzer to your forehead, the sides of your nose, and underneath your cheekbones. If you want your jawline to look more defined you can lightly apply some bronzer just underneath your jawline.
• Lovely Lipstick. Emily stays within the boundaries of nude or very light pink coloured lipstick. Buy a lipstick that will go with your skin tone. To copy Emily's look, you can either use a matte lipstick or a lip gloss, Emily switches between both.
• Hair. Emily keeps her hair very natural. Avoid using tools such as curlers or straighteners as the heat damages your hair quickly. Emily usually either has her hair in loose waves or straight. To get your hair straight the way that Emily does by using a blow dryer. To blow dry your hair straight all you need is a round brush, large clips to  hold your hair back and a blow dryer.           Here is my favourite video that will show you how. To blow dry your hair wavy you will need the same things as you needed to blow dry it straight. Here is my favourite video that will show you how (FYI: Neither of these videos are mine they are made by LuxyHair)

Pretty Little Liars Fashion and Beauty: Aria Montgomery

Fashion:

Aria Montgomery (played by Lucy Hale) has a very distinct fashion style. I personally would call it an edgy bohemian fashion sense but some would call it something else. I love the fact that each outfit is completely unpredictable and totally different from the last. Of all the girls, Aria and her fashion sense are definitely my favourite. The main thing that I love about Aria's style is that she wears everything confidently.

Aria Inspired Outfits:

Product Info: Shirt, Shorts, Jacket, Tights, Boots, Necklace, Belt

Tips:

• Go Dark. Stock up your wardrobe with lot's of dark colours such as black, grey, burgundy, brown and plum.
• Get Creative. Play around with different combinations and styles, set your own trends.
• Look for Standout Items. When buying clothes, look for items with a unique touch or detail such as chains, beading and other decorations.
• Love Legwear. Tights, thigh-highs and knee-highs all add dynamics and interest to an outfit and are great for autumn.
• Crazy Combinations. Try combining different fabrics, colours and textures to really make your outfit interesting.
• Brilliant Boots. Ankle boots, combat boots, thigh-high boots and knee-highs can be added to an outfit and depending on the type they can add either edginess or femininity.
• Leather Jackets. Aria wears a lot of leather jackets. She often wears them with dresses or skirts which adds instant edginess.

Beauty:

Although being naturally beautiful, Aria always has perfect makeup. She wears full eye-makeup all the time, with extra thick lashes. Aria makes her plump lips look beautiful with rich-coloured stains and lip gloss. Aria's hair is thick, shiny, voluminous and falls beautifully in big loose waves.

Tips:

• Extraordinary Eyeliner. Rim your eyes with a black or even a black brown colour like Aria to instantly intensify your eyes and make them more noticeable. Line the top lashes right next your lash line and gradually make the line thicker as you go along. Aria usually doesn't make her top eyeliner very thick so try not to go too far that it looks trashy. On the bottom line on your lower lash line but make sure not to make it too thick. You can line your waterline if you want to but if you can't it won't really matter.
• Magnificent Mascara. Aria always has thick, luscious lashes. Use an eyelash curler and a volumising mascara to get thick lashes just like Aria's. First, curl your eyelashes and make sure you hold the curler on for around 30 seconds. then apply volumising mascara starting at the base of the lashes wiggling it side to side to the ends of your lashes.
• Excellent Eyeshadow. Aria wears a lot of eyeshadow, but keeps it from looking too trashy by only using natural colours. Copy Aria's eyeshadow looks by using dark but natural colours. Aria tends to stick with matte colours so steer clear of shimmer to copy her look. you don't have to stick only to brown colours with your eyeshadow, try using grey's or brown's with different undertones. Try buying a palette with coordinating shade colours to make things easier. 
• Brilliant Brows. Aria's eyebrows are amazing. To get Aria's look start by keeping your brows in shape by tweezing and waxing them regularly into a thick arch. Then intensify them with a brow shadow or even an eyeshadow that matches their colour. To finish them off, set your brows in place with a clear brow gel to make them last all day. 
• Luscious Lipstick. Select a dark, richly coloured lipstick. Make sure you choose a colour that goes well with your skin tone. If possible stick to mainly matte colours and avoid high shine.
• Nice Nails. Use solid, dark colours like plum and dark grey to make your nails really stand out.
• Wonderful Waves. Make your hair soft and silky with a softening shampoo, then wrap the ends around a large curling iron.
